KODUNGALLURAMMA

The reigning deity of Kodungallur, the legend, is none other than Kannaki who set fire to the whole city of Madhura to take revenge on the Chera King who put to death her innocent husband. Kannaki left Madhura and settled herself at Kodungallur, bringing good luck and glory to the people and place.

MARTHOMA CHURCH

Azhikode, the place where St. Thomas set foot on Indian Land first in AD 52 is very near to Dr Augustine’s Arya Vaidya Asramam. Marthoma Church is a renowned pilgrim centre.

CHERAMAN JUMAMASJID

The Cheraman Juma Masjid at Kodungallur is the first Masjid in India. It retains the glory of the ancient Islamic heritage.

VALLAMKALI (BOAT RACE)

Vallamkali or the Snake Boat Race is the most enchanting facet of the festival of Onam. The event is promoted as a major tourist attraction of the Sate of Kerala and draws a large number of domestic and international tourists. Vallamkali has been going on for good number of years and its popularity is soaring with each passing year. Much credit for the success of Snake Boat Race can be attributed to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who was so
enamored by this colorful event tat he instituted a trophy for the race.

PUNNATHUR KOTA

Punnathur Kotta (Annakota), near Gurubvayoor in Thrissur district of Kerala. This place is famour for the Elephant Sanctuary. This place is only 3 kms from Guruvayoor temple where elephants are trained for temple purposes. Here right now more than 100 elephants are kept.

THRISUR POORAM

A very old Kerala model extravaganza organized with innumerable caparisoned elephants once in a year under the patronage of Vadakumnatha Temple in Thrissur.

CHERAI & MUNAKKAL BEACHES

The best naturally gifted beaches of Kerala. The long clean golden beaches with the calm serene backwaters on the other side and the land filled with coconut trees in between make these beaches very unique. These beaches are very close to Dr Augustine’s Arya Vaidya Asramam Ayurveda Hospital.

ATHIRAPPILLY

Athrappilly is famous among tourists. Athirappilly water fall is one of the best places of attraction in Kerala.

Musris

This is a global project and a destination in the making for a cultural pilgrimage. This land known earlier as Muziris is closely connected to the lives of great personalities like Adi Sankara, Kannaki, St.Thomas; home to Buddhists and Jews and a favourite destination of Arabs, Romans, Portuguese, Dutch and the British.
Muziris was an active port in the 1st century BC, though it is still not known when the city-port was established. The merchants of Muziris had instituted Indo-Greek and Indo-Roman-Egyptian trade channels, dealing in gold and other metals, pepper and spices, gemstones and textiles. In 1341, the profile of the water bodies in the Periyar River basin, on the Malabar Coast in Kerala underwent a major transformation. The prosperous city-port of Muziris, at the mouth of the Periyar, overlooking the Arabian Sea, suddenly dropped off the map, due to a flood or earthquake, or both.

Thiruvanchikulam temple

Thiruvanchikulam Mahadeva Temple, an ancient temple dating back to 2000 years, is a renowned temple in Kodungallur. The temple is renowned for the various representations of Lord Shiva. It is believed that Sundaramurthy Nayanar, a saint poet during the Cheraman perusal’s rule, sang at this temple and the sound of Nataraja dance was heard from the Srikovil.
Maha Shivaratri is a famous festival here attracting number of devotees. The temple has many small shrines dedicated to gods and goddesses. Gopu­ram Thevar, Dakshinamoorthy, Pasupathy, Natakkal Shivan, Sandhyavela Shivan, Palliyara Shivan, Unni Thevar and Konnakkal Shivan are the different forms of Shiva idols revered in this temple.
